Hi, this really is me, Doctor Rob, and you are listening to the House Call Doctor’s Quick and Dirty tips for taking charge of your health.

It’s been a long time since my last podcast.  I know a lot of my listeners wondered what happened – why haven’t I recorded any podcasts since December 2010?  I really appreciate everyone’s concern. Let me reassure you that I am doing fine; I am not sick, and I have not contracted a disease.  The reason I stopped podcasting (and stopped blogging, for those who read my blog) is that I needed to rearrange some priorities.  I needed to take care of myself.

That’s what I want to discuss on this abbreviated podcast: taking care of yourself.  The whole point of staying healthy is to be able to live a productive and happy life.  It’s hard for me as a doctor to preach this, though, if I am not taking care of myself.  So I am going to give you some Quick and Dirty Tips from what I’ve learned recently about this subject.  Hopefully my experience can benefit you; not from doctor to patient, but from person to person.  At the end of this podcast I’ll give you some news about what’s coming down the road for the House Call Doctor.

Tip #1: Be Selfish

This seems like strange advice, but I really believe that you must pay attention to your own needs first.  I am not advocating self-centeredness – where you want everyone to cater to your needs. However, you are no good to those around you if your life is out of whack.  So pay attention to your health and be willing to make it a priority even if it bothers others around you.
